Paris Jackson, aged 26 and the daughter of the legendary Michael Jackson, recently achieved a remarkable feat, celebrating five years of sobriety from alcohol and heroin.
On January 7, Paris posted a heartfelt video on Instagram detailing her journey from addiction to recovery, sharing her deep appreciation for the new life she has built.
“Hi, I’m PK, an alcoholic and a heroin addict,” she wrote in the caption, accompanying an uplifting montage. The video opened with clips of Paris during her struggles, transitioning to her vibrant present life.
“Today marks five years clean and sober from all substances,” she added. “Saying that I’m thankful barely captures it.”
A Transformative Journey
The powerful video illustrated Paris’ drastic shift, showcasing her accomplishments and simple pleasures since her sobriety. She has created music, graced red carpets at Paris Fashion Week, performed on stage, and enjoyed joyful moments with her fiancé, Justin Long, and her pets, depicting a reclaimed life.
“Being sober allows me to smile today,” she reflected. “I can laugh, grieve, love, and feel the warmth of the sun. Life continues, but today I can fully engage.”
In the video, Paris also highlighted her collection of sobriety chips, marking her progress leading up to this five-year milestone.
She expressed gratitude towards those who supported her throughout her recovery, stating, “To everyone who helped me along the way, especially in the beginning, middle, or throughout, you know who you are, and I owe you my life. Thank you.”
Recovery Journey Begins
The “Gringo” actress sought treatment for emotional health issues in 2019 and has openly discussed her battles. In a 2017 conversation with Rolling Stone, she revealed past experiences of self-harm and suicide attempts stemming from anxiety and self-loathing.
Her celebration of five years of sobriety highlights her strength and hope. “I can’t believe I nearly missed all this,” Paris reflected. “Thank God.”
