The Life-Altering Health Crisis That Threatened Mike Tyson’s Existence

The Serious Health Scare That Almost Cost Mike Tyson His Life

Mike Tyson’s remarkable return to the boxing ring comes after he narrowly escaped a life-threatening health crisis. Faced with a serious scare, he was set to fight YouTube star Jake Paul in a highly anticipated match originally planned for July 2024, which had to be postponed after Tyson fainted on a flight from Miami to Texas. The incident and its aftermath are detailed in a Netflix documentary, “Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson.” Tyson described his alarming experience, saying, “I went to the bathroom, and I threw up blood, next thing I know, I’m on the floor and I was defecating tar. So, I came here [to the hospital] and they found out I had a big ulcer — two-and-a-half inches and it’s bleeding. All of my friends were calling me like I’m dying.”

During his treatment, Tyson underwent multiple blood transfusions due to severe blood loss from the ulcer. He revealed the challenges he faced, saying, “I lost 25 pounds in 11 days. Couldn’t eat. Only liquids.” Despite the hardships, Tyson’s resilient spirit shines through; he remains a symbol of perseverance even amid his past controversies.

Tyson is healthy and ready to fight again

After being informed about treatment options for his ulcer, Tyson quickly shifted gears, focusing on returning to training. He and Jake Paul agreed to delay their bout, ensuring fairness, especially with a massive $40 million prize at stake. Paul openly expressed his desire to face Tyson at his best, stating, “My fans know I don’t want to face Iron Mike at anything but his best. When he steps into the ring with me, I will be ready to claim my W with a sensational finish.”

By July 2024, reports indicated that Tyson was cleared to resume training. In August, both fighters gathered at a press event to announce the new fight date and reignite fan excitement. Tyson remarked, “I’m beautiful and I’ve been training,” confirming he had received medical clearance. With some adjustments made to the fight’s rules, the long-awaited clash between the iconic boxer and the rising star is on track. Regardless of how the match turns out, Tyson has triumphed over his greatest challenge: life itself.
