Patrick Mahomes, quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs, and his wife Brittany have just welcomed their third child, a daughter named Golden Raye. This addition completes their family’s theme of elemental names.
The proud parents took to Instagram to share their joy, posting an adorable picture of Golden’s little foot along with a touching caption that introduced her to their followers.
The Mahomes family also has a three-year-old daughter, Sterling Skye, and a two-year-old son named Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes II, continuing their distinctive metallic naming tradition that has intrigued many fans.
The inspiration behind the names
The Mahomes family’s naming system stems from their appreciation for symbolism and family ties. During a Q&A session on Instagram in 2023, Brittany explained that the idea originated with their pets, Steel and Silver, both of whom were named prior to their children’s births.

“I got Steel when I was in college and chose that name. When we adopted another dog, I wanted to name her Sterling to match Steel, but I decided to reserve that name for my daughter,” Brittany shared.
When their son was born in 2022, Patrick’s younger sibling, Jackson Mahomes, contributed the idea of naming him Bronze to align with Sterling.
“Jackson proposed the name Bronze to complement Sterling, and it was a perfect fit,” Patrick explained in a press conference.
“It works out nicely. He can establish his own identity as Bronze instead of just being Patrick. Plus, Sterling and Bronze will share that special connection,” he added.
Golden’s arrival coincided with an important time for Patrick, with the Chiefs securing the top seed in the NFL playoffs. Following their victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers on Christmas Day, Patrick humorously commented on the timing.
“I told my wife that I’d ensure we get the number one seed before our baby arrives. We achieved that,” he joked.
This victory not only provided the Chiefs an additional week of rest but also allowed Patrick the opportunity to be there for his daughter’s birth.
