Choi Jong-rak, known for his YouTube channel, regularly indulges his passion for Vietnamese food by sampling a wide range of dishes, ranging from budget-friendly street food to upscale dining experiences.
Recently, Jong-rak decided to explore a restaurant located in the Landmark 81 skyscraper in Binh Thanh district to savour com tam, a commonly found street food that is priced at a steep VND550,000 at the establishment.
Opting for the most expensive iteration of the street delicacy, Jong-rak ordered a fully loaded version complete with grilled pork, pork skin, egg pies, and century eggs, accompanied by cracklings, pickled vegetables, sweet and sour sauce, and a side of soup.
Jong-rak was impressed by the premium quality ingredients used in the “broken rice” dish, such as the renowned ST 25 rice, crowned as the finest rice globally in both 2019 and 2023.
The grilled pork, sourced from Iberico pigs raised on natural grains in Spain, further elevated the dish’s extravagance. Notably, the egg pies were crafted from goose meat, a departure from the traditional pork-based recipe in Vietnam.
The Korean food enthusiast lauded the dish with great admiration, acknowledging that the panoramic city view from the restaurant added to the overall dining experience and justified the premium price tag.
