Crackdown on Unlawful Religious Gathering in Quang Nam
Law enforcement in Quang Nam Province has taken action against an unauthorized religious gathering linked to the “Church of God the Mother.” The group, headed by a 30-year-old man, is currently under investigation following the incident.
On the night of January 21, around 7:40 p.m., officers conducted a raid at a residence in Trung Phu 2, located in Dien Minh Ward, Dien Ban Town.
During the operation, nine people—including three men, five women, and a child—were found participating in these illegal religious activities. The leader of the group, identified as N.T.T., is a 30-year-old from Hoi An City, who was temporarily living in the area.
Authorities confiscated several documents and items related to the “Church of God the Mother,” which lacks official recognition within Vietnam.
This action is part of a broader initiative by local authorities to combat unauthorized religious practices and raise awareness among the public regarding the legal standards for religious activities.
Unregistered groups like the “Church of God the Mother” have been criticized for promoting beliefs that clash with Vietnamese cultural and ethical traditions.
The police encourage community members to stay alert and refrain from engaging in unlicensed religious events. Officials emphasize the necessity for compliance with Vietnam’s regulations on religious practices to preserve social cohesion and cultural values.
