On December 9, the Ministry of National Defense conducted a significant rehearsal for the opening of the Vietnam International Defense Expo 2024 at Gia Lam Airport in Hanoi.
Lieutenant General Phung Si Tan, who is both the Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Vietnam People’s Army and the head of the organizing committee, was in charge of directing the rehearsal.
This rehearsal featured several exciting new elements, including a female military band, drones showcasing the national flag, and impressive demonstrations from military dog teams.
Lieutenant General Tan expressed appreciation for the participating units after evaluating their performance. With the ceremony just under ten days away, he noted, “The coordination and execution have become much more refined and efficient.”
Reflecting on his own experiences from a military parade in 1985, Lieutenant General Tan emphasized the significance of this year’s event, marking both the 80th anniversary of the Vietnam People’s Army and the 35th anniversary of National Defense Day.
He quoted Defense Minister General Phan Van Giang, saying, “We are not just showcasing in Vietnam but on an international stage,” highlighting Vietnam’s cultural and military significance worldwide. He reminded all participants that their actions represent the Vietnamese nation.
Lieutenant General Tan encouraged all performers and commanders to be precise, coordinated, and visually engaging in their movements, sticking closely to the choreography. He called for a demonstration of the Vietnamese people’s spirit, resilience, and discipline.
Personnel from various units were reminded of their responsibility, urging them to face challenges and adhere to strict discipline to ensure the final rehearsals and the opening ceremony’s success.
This rehearsal marked the first time a female military band participated alongside other units, with the Border Defense Academy’s dog unit impressively performing crime-fighting simulations and obstacle challenges.
A symbolic bamboo tree, an emblem of Vietnam, will play a central role in the opening ceremony’s artistic presentation.
The Special Forces also amazed attendees with their martial arts, close-combat skills, and thrilling fire-jumping displays.
Among the highlights will be an impressive aerial performance by the Vietnam Air Force, with a formation of four Su-30MK2 fighter jets executing detailed maneuvers to the delight of spectators.
Recently, crowds have been forming along the Long Bien-Xuan Quan dike to catch a glimpse of these dramatic aerial drills.
