Memorable Journey to Khuon Bong Cave
Nguyen Thi Minh Hieu, a resident of Hanoi, shared her captivating experience of visiting Khuon Bong Cave on December 15.
“I have explored several caves across Vietnam, but Khuon Bong is exceptional. The breathtaking scenery and unique characteristics of its caverns truly amazed me,” Hieu remarked.
This thrilling day trip included captivating activities such as rock climbing, navigating through tight spaces, swimming in an underground river, and moving through submerged areas to exit the cave located in Thai Nguyen Province.
For her, the excursion was not solely an outdoor adventure, but also a personal journey of discovery, skill development, and mental refreshment.
About Khuon Bong Cave
Khuon Bong Cave is situated in Vu Le Commune, Bac Son District, in Lang Son Province, and is part of the second tourist route within the Lang Son Geopark.
Covering nearly 4,900 square kilometers across multiple locales, Lang Son Geopark was designated as a UNESCO Global Geopark in September 2024.
Typically, visitors kick off their Khuon Bong Cave exploration with a 120-meter rope climb at “Yen Son Heaven Gate,” which is also called Hang Hong in Huu Lung District, Lang Son.
Explorers then trek through forest paths leading to a narrow 60-centimeter limestone entrance, where they must use ropes and harnesses to make their way down into the cave.
Once inside, a challenging 3-meter-deep pit and a steep drop of 60 meters bring adventurers to the cave floor, where their exploration begins.
The journey encompasses various terrains, including trekking, kayaking, swimming, and crawling through the underground river filled with remarkable geological features.
During her adventure, Hieu recalled stopping for lunch inside the cave before completing the 3-kilometer expedition, which involved paddling on SUP boards and navigating low areas.
“The area inside the cave resembles an underground palace, filled with incredible sights and landscapes,” she expressed.
The Potential of Khuon Bong Cave
Pham Van Manh, director of an exploration tourism company, emphasized the cave’s vast potential for visitors.
“With its gorgeous natural structures, including untouched stalactites, crystal-clear pools, and cascading waterfalls, Khuon Bong is perfect for adventure tourism,” Manh explained.
The company is in the process of seeking permits to organize guided tours of this majestic cave.
Despite great prospects, there are hurdles, particularly at the cave’s exit in Suoi Mo Ga area of Thai Nguyen where low ceilings and submerged paths necessitate expert supervision for safe navigation.
Pham Thi Huong, deputy head of the Lang Son Geopark Management Office, stated that developing the cave will require a collaborative effort between Lang Son and Thai Nguyen provinces.
The Lang Son Geopark plans to feature four tourist routes highlighting 38 attractions, conveniently linked by major highways including National Routes 1A, 1B, 4B, and 279. Each route is designed to offer diverse experiences, from cultural heritage to geological marvels.
