Hanoi Welcomes US-Trained Maestro for Winter Symphony Performance

US-trained conductor leads Winter Symphony in Hanoi

Upcoming Concert with Dr. Phan Do Phuc

Dr. Phan Do Phuc, a talented conductor and 1990-born graduate of renowned American music programs, is set to conduct the Vietnam Youth Orchestra (VYO) along with an international ensemble for the “Hanoi Concert: Winter Symphony.”

This highly anticipated event will take place on December 13 at the Hanoi Opera House, featuring performances by the VYO and the Binh Minh Choir under Dr. Phuc’s expert direction.

About Dr. Phan Do Phuc

Dr. Phan Do Phuc is internationally recognized for his exceptional skills as a soloist, chamber musician, and principal cellist. He has held leadership roles in prestigious orchestras such as the Napa Valley Festival Orchestra and the New York Classical Players Orchestra.

He earned his Doctorate in Cello Performance from Stony Brook University, studying with the esteemed Colin Carr. After returning to Vietnam, he took on the principal cellist role at both the Vietnam National Symphony Orchestra and the Sun Symphony Orchestra.

In 2022, Dr. Phuc became the first conductor of the Vietnam Youth Orchestra and recently assumed the position of Deputy General Director at the Vietnam Youth Music Institute, where he focuses on elevating classical music through various performances and educational initiatives.

Concert Program Highlights

The “Hanoi Concert: Winter Symphony” will feature beloved classical pieces such as Vivaldi’s Winter from the Four Seasons, Brahms’ Hungarian Dance No. 5, and Sleigh Ride.

The concert will also showcase Vietnamese folk music arranged for the symphonic setting, including the cherished folk tune Xe chi luon kim and the deeply emotive Hoa thom buom luon, both promising to enrich the musical experience.

In keeping with the winter theme, the concert will highlight a selection of family-oriented songs from esteemed Vietnamese composers Trinh Cong Son and Pham Trong Cau, sure to resonate emotionally with the audience.

The Hanoi Concert: Winter Symphony will be available for live viewing on HTV1, FM96, through the Hanoi On app, and various other digital platforms managed by Hanoi Radio and Television.
