During a state visit to China on August 18th, General Secretary and President To Lam, accompanied by his spouse, paid tribute to Martyr Pham Hong Thai. They honored his memory by laying a wreath and offering incense at the Huanghuagang Martyrs’ Cemetery in Guangzhou, Guangdong Province, and visited the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League Headquarters.
Martyr Pham Hong Thai, a patriotic Vietnamese soldier, lost his life in Guangzhou in 1924. He attempted to assassinate the Governor-General of French Indochina but sacrificed himself by jumping into the Zhū Jiāng River rather than be captured by the enemy, inspiring national liberation movements across Asia.
General Secretary and President To Lam and the Vietnamese delegation also visited the Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League Headquarters, where President Ho Chi Minh was actively engaged in revolutionary activities during the 1920s.
This site, now recognized as a national cultural and historical landmark in China, played a crucial role in the establishment of the Communist Party of Vietnam. It was where Nguyen Ai Quoc, later known as Ho Chi Minh, conducted political training courses for Vietnamese revolutionaries and founded the official publication of the League’s Central Committee.
The location, preserved as the “Vietnam Revolutionary Youth League Headquarters,” stands as a testament to the significant friendship and shared revolutionary history between the Vietnamese and Chinese people.
Renovations in 2002 and subsequent exhibitions have further enhanced the site’s significance, commemorating President Ho Chi Minh’s impactful legacy in Guangzhou and fostering continued camaraderie between the two nations.
