During Vietnam IT Day 2024 in Tokyo on August 6, Vinasa chair Nguyen Van Khoa highlighted the growing digital technology collaboration between Vietnamese and Japanese tech firms, boosting competitiveness in key business sectors in both countries.
Vietnam is a top choice and the second-largest partner for digital transformation in Japan. Numerous Vietnamese digital companies have established offices or legal entities in Japan, employing hundreds or even thousands of workers there.
To enhance skilled IT professionals, the Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology (PTIT) under the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) has forged partnerships with three Japanese enterprises and training institutions.
PTIT and Aizu University will jointly operate a 3+2 training program. This program enables PTIT students to transfer credits after three years of study in Vietnam to pursue a master’s degree at Aizu University for an additional two years.
PTIT has also collaborated with Japanese Agest to provide training and internships in the Japanese environment to PTIT’s Robotics and AI students.
Additionally, PTIT and GAG, a Japanese training academy, will cooperate in teaching Japanese language and culture, as well as offering digital university training to the Vietnamese community in Japan.
Vietnam IT Day 2024 aims to expand the network of businesses participating in collaboration programs, promoting Vietnam’s IT firms in Japan, and facilitating IT development in agencies, organizations, and enterprises.
Participants discussed key cooperation trends between the two parties over the next 5-10 years, focusing on system digital transformation, AI, digital transformation in production, and green transition.
They highlighted the trend of Japanese firms assigning Vietnamese partners to handle various tasks in the production chain, such as research, design, production, and testing, across a wide range of business sectors.
Noriya Tarutani from JETRO (Japan External Trade Organization) noted ongoing yearly Japanese investments in IT in Vietnam, totaling 59 investment projects by 2023, representing 20% of Japan’s total investments in Vietnam.
