Record Passenger Surge at Vietnam’s Major Airports Ahead of Tet Celebrations

As Tet approaches, Vietnam’s Civil Aviation Administration reports that over 1.1 million passengers traveled through the three major airports in just four days.

Tan Son Nhat International Airport recorded around 3,900 flights, accommodating nearly 592,000 passengers and handling approximately 5,800 tons of cargo, showing an increase of 9.7% in flight operations, 12.0% in passenger traffic, and 1.7% in cargo volume compared to the same timeframe in 2024.

Noi Bai International Airport reported more than 2,300 flights, serving about 385,000 travelers and managing over 8,700 tons of cargo, highlighting a robust growth of 10.9% in flight activity, 18.5% in passengers, and 15.3% in cargo from last year.

At Da Nang International Airport, there were 988 flights, with service to more than 155,700 passengers and 217 tons of cargo, indicating a rise of 4.8% in flights, 14.7% in passenger count, and 3.5% in cargo compared to 2024.

In total, these airports collectively witnessed over 1.1 million travelers during the four-day span.

With Tet nearing, the Civil Aviation Administration has recognized the expected surge in passenger numbers, which may strain airport facilities and the quality of services provided.

Passengers may experience delays and cancellations amid the busy holiday period. In response, the authority is urging all Vietnamese airlines and ground service operators to improve flight scheduling practices, ensuring confirmed slots are adhered to in order to reduce such inconveniences.

Airlines are advised to ensure staff are consistently available at check-in, security, and baggage claim areas to assist passengers and maintain order and safety throughout the airports.

Collaboration between airlines and ground service providers is encouraged to accurately predict flight volumes, allowing for effective preparations and management of passenger services during any unforeseen delays or cancellations.

Vietnam Airlines and the Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation are being called to allocate maximum resources especially at Tan Son Nhat and Noi Bai International Airports to streamline air traffic operations during the peak times.

Moreover, airport authorities will be vigilant in enforcing rules regarding passenger transport during instances of cancellations, significant delays, or flight denials to ensure that travelers are well-informed and their rights protected.
