Thuy’s Xoi Sells Quickly Despite Weather Challenges
Thuy’s xoi is incredibly popular, resulting in rapid sales. She utilizes 100 kilograms of ingredients, particularly cassava and sticky rice, to cook her famous xoi san, which sells out within just a few hours.
A video of her selling xoi on Cat Cut street in Hai Phong’s Le Chan district has gained significant attention online, drawing thousands of interactions.
The footage shows Thuy at her stall, browsing on her phone while it rains heavily and water floods the surroundings. To keep her goods dry, she places warm baskets of xoi san on chairs.
Many viewers have praised her ability to remain composed in such challenging weather conditions.
In an interview with VietNamNet, Thuy expressed surprise at the video’s popularity on social media.
She noted that many areas in Hai Phong experienced flooding for days following Typhoon Yagi, yet she persisted in selling xoi at her stall despite the conditions.
Besides xoi san, she also offers various dishes made from steamed cassava, with prices ranging from VND 15,000 to VND 20,000.
These dishes are cooked on a charcoal stove, housed in individual basins to keep them warm.
Thuy’s xoi san is sold seasonally, from the seventh month to the second month of the lunar calendar, as cassava is available only at certain times.
“I usually start selling at 9 am, although I may begin later if cassava preparation takes longer,” she explained.
To operate her stall, Thuy relies on support from her family, with four members waking up at 1 am to assist until everything is ready for sale at 9 am.
For the highest quality xoi san, she only uses cassava sourced from hillside farms and premium sticky rice (Glutinous Roundgrain Rice).
Customers often joke that only a fortunate few get to sample Thuy’s xoi.
“When I head to work in the morning, Thuy’s stall is typically closed,” shared Thuy Linh, a local customer from Le Chan district.
