As the Da Nang International Fireworks Festival 2024 (DIFF 2024) reaches its grand finale on July 13, hotels in Da Nang are struggling to accommodate the influx of visitors. Many hotels are fully booked, leading to price hikes of up to 20% and in some cases even tripling of rates compared to regular days.
Tourists are flocking to Da Nang to witness the highly anticipated showdown between China and Finland. This event, combined with the summer season, has caused a booking frenzy at three to five-star hotels in the city.
Quyet Thang, a visitor from Hanoi, shared his ten-day struggle to secure a hotel room for his family to watch the fireworks finale. Despite checking various online platforms and contacting multiple hotels with views of the fireworks display, all accommodations were fully booked for July 13.
Thang recounted, “A five-star hotel near Thuan Phuoc Bridge, which typically charges 1.6-1.7 million VND per night, increased its prices to 8-9 million VND per room for the fireworks finale. Despite my initial hesitation, when I tried to book the next day, all rooms were already sold out.”
Ms. My Trinh, the Director of Bien Vang Hotel, mentioned that their hotel has been fully booked for the fireworks finale on July 13 for several months. Room rates were increased by 20% to accommodate the high demand, ranging from 600,000 to 700,000 VND per night.
At Muong Thanh Luxury Da Nang Hotel, Executive Director Ngo Thi Huong confirmed full occupancy from July 12 to 14 with rates averaging 1.6-1.7 million VND per night. The hotel maintained regular prices to promote domestic tourism.
The Awaken Danang Hotel reported nearly 300 booked rooms for the fireworks finale, while Da Nang Mikazuki Japanese Resorts & Spa experienced over 90% booking rates with a 20% price increase during peak times.
The surge in hotel prices, with some establishments tripling their rates, has made last-minute bookings challenging for guests. The Deputy Director of Da Nang’s Department of Tourism, Nguyen Thi Hoai An, noted a significant increase in both international and domestic visitors during the festival.
Over 198,000 guests were served by accommodation facilities during the three nights of DIFF 2024, marking an 11.7% rise from the previous year. International visitors saw a 29.6% increase, while domestic visitors saw a slight 2.1% uptick. The city’s overall room occupancy rate ranged from 70% to 75%, with increased flight frequencies and promotional activities in the railway sector contributing to the higher visitor turnout.
