Celebrating New Beginnings: A Couple’s Journey to Parenthood

Phung Thi Lien and her husband are joyfully celebrating the Lunar New Year, marking a significant moment in their lives as they welcome their twin daughters after a challenging 12-year journey with infertility.

The couple, Lien, aged 35, and her husband, from Son Tay, Hanoi, got married in 2011 and initially postponed having children, thinking they had ample time. When they finally decided to start a family, they encountered unexpected difficulties.

After several unsuccessful attempts to conceive, they sought help from traditional herbalists, hoping for a miracle, but unfortunately, nothing seemed to help.

In 2017, they turned to modern medicine, where they learned that the husband had issues with sperm quality, leading to recommendations for in-vitro fertilization (IVF). However, their two attempts that year both ended in disappointment.

Throughout these years, they invested all their earnings and even took loans to pursue treatments, clinging to the hope of becoming parents. In 2020, they attempted IVF again at another clinic, but still faced setbacks.

As emotional and financial stress accumulated, it became increasingly difficult for the couple to witness their friends and family enjoying parenthood.

In 2023, they sought assistance from the Hanoi Hospital for Andrology and Infertility, resolute in their desire to start a family. Lien was encouraged by the egg stimulation and retrieval processes, but yet again, a May 2023 transfer did not yield positive results. Despite the setback, she stayed hopeful and focused on her health for the next chance.

In December 2023, under the expertise of Dr. Pham Thi My, Lien had another embryo transfer that brought overwhelming happiness. A positive pregnancy test revealed the joyous news, later confirmed by a Beta HCG test.

The excitement soared when an ultrasound revealed two heartbeats, indicating twins.

By August 2024, Lien gave birth to her twin girls through a C-section, surrounded by family who had showered her with support throughout her journey. After 12 challenging years, their family was finally complete.

As they celebrate this Lunar New Year, Lien and her husband will proudly stroll with their daughters, visiting loved ones. The years filled with questions about starting a family are gone, replaced by the sweet sounds of their daughters’ laughter and the fulfillment of their long-held dream.
