Tropical Depression Update Over Luzon
The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting reports that a tropical depression is currently located over the eastern waters of Luzon Island in the Philippines.
As of 10 AM on September 16, the depression’s center was noted at around 17.1° N latitude and 124.4° E longitude.
The maximum wind speeds near the center are recorded at levels 6-7, ranging between 39 to 61 km/h, with gusts reaching level 9. The depression is advancing westward at approximately 15 km/h.
Forecasts suggest that the system may strengthen into a typhoon within the next 24 to 48 hours as it continues its westward path.
In the upcoming 48 to 72 hours, a shift in the storm’s direction is anticipated, moving to the northwest at speeds of 10 to 15 km/h.
Beginning September 17, strong winds are expected to impact the sea, particularly in the eastern section of the northern East Sea, where thunderstorms and winds at level 7 (50-61 km/h) with gusts up to level 9 (75-88 km/h) will occur, leading to turbulent sea conditions.
The tropical depression is also likely to produce high wave heights of 2 to 4 meters in this area.
Looking ahead, meteorological predictions indicate the possibility of 1 or 2 typhoons forming in the East Sea by late September, which could influence the Northern and Central coastal regions of Vietnam.
Moreover, there is an increased threat of severe flooding in the Central region during the rainy season in October and November 2024.
