Amotekun Strikes in Ogun: 16 Sex Workers Detained in Brothel Operation

Amotekun Corps Conducts Major Raid on Ifo Brothel, Arresting 16 Individuals

In a significant operation, the Ogun State Security Network Agency, known as the Amotekun Corps, detained sixteen sex workers during a raid on a brothel located in Ifo Local Government Area. The operation took place at the Railway Line Hotel along Old Bank Road on Wednesday, February 12, 2025.

The individuals apprehended, ranging from ages 12 to 29, included girls with names such as Annabelle Udo, Ubong Rejoice, Edaefe Sharon, Godwin Bassey, Okon Lovett, along with several others. The raid stemmed from intelligence received on February 8, prompting action around 6:15 am on the day of the arrests.

Amotekun’s state commandant, Commander Alade Adedigba, disclosed that out of the sixteen arrested, a significant number were victims of human trafficking from Akwa Ibom, with others originating from Cross River and Delta states. The main suspect, identified as Mrs. Eden Joy, reportedly played a key role in their trafficking and implicated the hotel owner, Mrs. Okutoro Yemisi, aged 60, during questioning.

During the investigations, the girls recounted harrowing experiences of being coerced into staying through rituals that involved making them swear oaths undressed, heightening their sense of helplessness to escape.

Items confiscated during the raid included a total of N819,600, various drugs, a supply of condoms, and energy enhancers. Adedigba revealed additional unsettling practices, stating that the traffickers retained used tissue paper from clients for undisclosed reasons.

After expressing concern for the welfare of these youths who should be pursuing education instead of being forced into such situations for profit, Adedigba warned that the state would not accept any form of crime or disorder that jeopardizes public safety.

The young women will be handed over to the National Agency for the Prohibition of Trafficking in Persons (NAPTIP) for further investigation and support. One captured individual relayed how she serviced as many as ten men in a single day, illustrating the extent of exploitation as she disclosed that all earnings were surrendered to the madam, who provided only basic necessities.
