The police in Anambra State have closed off the property where three children were tragically killed.
This incident took place on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in the Nnewichi area of Nnewi North Local Government.
The victims, identified as Ejezie Chikaima Daviana (9), Ejezie Chimdirim David (5), and Ejezie Chimziterem Dominica (8), were found deceased and hidden in a deep freezer in their home. Additional details can be read in earlier reports.
According to Punch, the building is now cordoned off with police tape, and the residents have been temporarily moved while an investigation is underway.
SP Tochukwu Ikenga, a spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, confirmed the building’s closure in a phone interview on Wednesday, stating that it is crucial to secure the crime scene during the investigation process.
“We’ve temporarily sealed the area as it is a crime scene. The police chief has ordered this until the investigation is complete,” said the PPRO.
“While there have been no arrests made so far, we are actively gathering information from the local community to aid our inquiries. The search for the reasons behind this tragic event is ongoing.”
“The investigation is being taken seriously, and we promise the grieving family we will work to uncover the truth. Updates will be shared as the situation develops.”
Udochukwu Ejezie, the father of the deceased children, spoke with the press on Wednesday about the terrible impact this tragedy has had on his family, which now includes just their eldest son, currently in seminary school in Ukpor.
He mentioned that they are temporarily living with relatives since their home has been sealed.
“This has plunged my family into profound sorrow. We did nothing to deserve this cruelty. They didn’t just take my children; they extinguished bright futures,” he expressed.
“We call on the authorities to ensure that the truth comes out and that those responsible face justice. We have had a good relationship with neighbors and have no suspicions towards anyone.”
The Anambra State Government has promised to track down the individuals responsible for this horrific act to prevent future occurrences.
During a visit to the crime scene on Wednesday, Ify Obinabo, the State Commissioner for Women and Social Welfare, reported that Governor Chukwuma Soludo is aware of the situation and has committed to seeking justice for the victims.
“Those behind this crime will face the full force of the law. The state is dedicated to providing support and hope for the mourning family,” she stated.
“The administration under Chukwuma Soludo in Anambra State will not rest until the culprits are held accountable.”
