Suspected members of the Boko Haram group launched an assault on a community in Yobe State recently.
The incident took place in Buni Yadi town, which is the headquarters of Gujba Local Government area in the state, shortly after 34 individuals were killed by the militants in Mafa ward, Tarmuwa LGA.
Reports from Daily Trust indicate that the recent attack targeted a vigilante camp at Sabon Fegi, near the government lodge, situated behind the local government secretariat.
An individual from the town shared that the assailants set fire to portions of the lodge and vehicles owned by a bread factory.
According to the source, “They arrived in the town last night on foot, set fire to some sections of the government lodge, and burned two vehicles belonging to a bread factory named Annour Bread. They were confronted by vigilante members and other special forces, prompting the terrorists to flee. However, they proceeded to burn down the vigilante camp, two bread factory vehicles, and parts of the lodge.” Another source, a member of the security agency, mentioned that one vigilante at the attacked camp sustained injuries.
Prior to the assault, security personnel patrolling the area evacuated residents from the streets upon receiving intelligence regarding the imminent incursion by the insurgents, believed to be hiding nearby.
The spokesperson of the State Police Command, DSP Dungus Abdulkarim, confirmed the attack, stating that the militants arrived in large numbers on foot and began firing indiscriminately.
Similarly, Captain Shehu Muhammad, Assistant Director of the Public Relations Unit at Operation Lafiya Dole Sector 2 Damaturu, verified the situation, noting that the troops successfully repelled the attack.
