Nigerian marriage counselor Shamsseddin Giwa shares insights with women who are entering a marriage believing they can rescue their partners from their prior wives.

He warns that many second wives may be surprised to discover that the first wives are not the issue at all.
 
“The unexpected realization for numerous second wives occurs once they marry and see that the initial wife isn’t the problem; in fact, she can be a constructive presence in the union,” he expressed in a recent Facebook post.
 
“Feelings of inadequacy can lead to insecurity, making them perceive it as a rivalry.
 
“If you choose to enter into a polygamous relationship, do so with the understanding that you are not the ‘chosen one’ to fix the husband’s issues with the first wife. The husband is content and is aware of his decisions.”
