Governor Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state has called out Professor Nnenna Oti, the returning officer for the March 18 governorship election in the state, to reveal who attempted to bribe and bully her during the collation of results in Umuahia, the state capital. He expressed his disappointment in INEC for Oti’s actions before and after the election, accusing her of coming to execute a ‘hatchet job’ against the PDP in the state. He also noted that her participation in the victory dance of the Labour Party’s candidate, Dr. Alex Otti, was a clear violation of INEC’s expected neutrality. Ikpeazu denied ever having met or contacted Oti, and questioned the vehicular and cash gifts she had received from some Abians after the election. He suggested that these gifts could have been a fulfillment of a promise made before the election, and called it an ‘unprecedented’ occurrence in Nigeria.
