Catholic Church Affirms Adeboye’s Apology on Tithing Statement

The Catholic Church has voiced its support for Pastor Enoch Adeboye of the Redeemed Christian Church of God following his recent apology concerning his views on tithing. The Church emphasizes that financial contributions are not a means to achieve salvation.

Rev Fr Anthony Godonu, the Director of Social Communications for the Lagos Catholic Archdiocese, stated that Adeboye’s apology was commendable.

Previously, Pastor Adeboye had claimed that paying tithes was essential for entering heaven but later acknowledged this statement as an error.

He clarified that entering heaven involves living in holiness and maintaining peaceful relations with others.

In response, Godonu remarked that Adeboye’s previous teachings did not align with Catholic doctrine.

In his statement, he noted: “Pastor Enoch Adeboye has sincerely repented over his claim from three years ago that one cannot enter heaven without paying tithes. I view this as a commendable step as he has embraced the truth. According to John 8:32, knowing the truth leads to freedom.”

“Adeboye’s acknowledgment of the truth signifies his liberation. The Catholic Church advocates for doing the will of God and following Jesus Christ, rather than equating money with salvation.”

“We encourage individuals to carry their crosses daily and to accept life’s challenges with gratitude. It’s uplifting to see a prominent pastor in Nigeria openly convey this truth at this stage of his life.”

“What more can he convey than this fundamental truth if his goal is to reach heaven? I commend him for embracing the truth and illuminating this message for the public.”
