Concerns Raised Over Harassment of Protesters in FCT by Police and DSS

Activist figures, Omoyele Sowore and Deji Adeyanju, have raised alarm over alleged harassment of protesters by the police and operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) at the MKO Abiola stadium in the Federal Capital Territory.

 

The ongoing EndBadGovernanceInNigeria protests have seen accusations of protesters being harassed by the Nigeria Police Force in FCT.

Omoyele Sowore, an activist politician, took to X to report the alleged harassment, claiming that both the police and the DSS were targeting activists at the MKO Abiola stadium.

Sowore posted: “BREAKING: @PoliceNG arrive scene of Abuja #EndBadGovernaceInNigerianow to attack activists, @OfficialDSSNG on their way too with govt sponsored thugs to do the same thing.”

Backing Sowore’s account, activist lawyer Deji Adeyanju also spoke out about the police’s treatment of protesters at the stadium in Abuja.

“The police are currently harassing protesters at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abuja,” Adeyanju shared in X.

These nationwide demonstrations, sparked by discontent over the prevailing hardships in the country, commenced on Thursday with Nigerians voicing their grievances.

Incidents of police using excessive force on protesters have been reported, with casualties reported in different parts of Nigeria.
