An amount of 26,625 litres of petrol confiscated by the Cross River/Akwa Ibom Command of the Nigeria Customs Service has been made available to the public through an auction in Cross River State.
The petrol was sold at a reduced rate of N9000 per 25-litre keg as part of the auction process.
The auction, overseen by Controller HK Ejibunu, aimed to counter petrol smuggling activities and was carried out with the coordinated efforts of the Office of the National Security Adviser and the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory, in line with existing laws and the approval of the Controller-General of Customs, Bashir Adeniyi.
Ejibunu emphasized the determination of the NCS to crack down on petrol smugglers and uphold the law, ensuring that those involved in illegal activities face the appropriate consequences.
