Deputy Speaker Supports Calls for Release of Nnamdi Kanu

Deputy Speaker Kalu Applauds 50 Lawmakers Seeking Release of Nnamdi (via Primetweets)

Acknowledging the efforts of 50 House of Representatives members advocating for a resolution to the continued detention of Nnamdi Kanu, the Deputy Speaker, Benjamin Kalu has commended their stance.

He cautioned against exploiting Kanu’s imprisonment for personal gain and stressed that he should not be used as a pawn for political interests.

Kalu also praised the lawmakers who petitioned the President using constitutional provisions to seek Kanu’s release.

In a statement by his chief press secretary, Levinus Nwabughiogu, Kalu expressed optimism that the South East caucus would unite in supporting the cause.

Reflecting on the Peace in South East Project (PISE-P), a social advocacy group he established, Kalu highlighted the importance of Kanu’s release in restoring peace in the region.

He noted progress in his private discussions with authorities for a political resolution in Kanu’s case but stressed the need for confidentiality to safeguard progress made.

Kalu revealed his interactions with Kanu during visits to the DSS detention facility, expressing hope for Kanu’s eventual freedom.

He emphasized Kanu’s commitment to regional peace and the positive reception of this commitment by authorities and Kanu’s family representative.

Kalu urged calm and restraint from the Igbo community amidst the unfolding events, acknowledging that compelling the government is not a viable approach.

Highlighting the APC administration’s focus on the South East for development, Kalu assured that the South East Development Commission (SEDC) bill aims to rejuvenate the region post-civil war.

Appreciating the lawmakers’ support, Kalu called for continued unity and hope while refraining from provocations in the public discourse.
