The Borno state police command has sorrowfully announced the demise of Ruth Wazis, a dedicated professor and former head of the business management department at the University of Maiduguri.
The commissioner of police in Borno state, Yusuf Lawal, revealed that Wazis lost her life in a tragic accident involving her vehicle at her home on Sunday.
According to Lawal, the late professor sustained fatal injuries when her car unexpectedly rolled backward and pinned her down.
A police statement recounted the incident that occurred on the evening of June 30, 2024, at the Judari Polo Area in Maiduguri. Ruth Wazis was reported to have alighted from her vehicle to open her residential gate and park in her garage. However, a sudden mechanical malfunction and a steep slope led to the vehicle accelerating uncontrollably, causing the distressing accident.
Ruth Wazis, who was the former Head of the Department of Business Management at the University of Maiduguri, tragically succumbed to her severe injuries before she could receive medical attention at UMTH Hospital, where she was pronounced dead by a medical professional.
She leaves behind her husband, Haruna Wazis, also a professor, as well as three children and three grandchildren to mourn her untimely demise.
