Significant Fire Destroys Shops in Ibadan

A devastating fire has swept through multiple shops in Ibadan, Oyo State, resulting in substantial property damage estimated in millions of naira.

As reported by Daily Post, the blaze broke out in the Tollgate area, located along the Lagos/Ibadan expressway.

The incident occurred during the early hours of Friday morning.

Reports indicate that at least four shops were consumed by the flames.

Significant amounts of goods and property have been lost to the fire.

Fortunately, there were no reported casualties as a result of the fire, according to Daily Post.

The Oyo State Fire Service’s General Manager, Mr. Yemi Akinyinka, confirmed the details to Daily Post.

Akinyinka stated that the fire was reported to their agency at approximately 5:50 AM.

He elaborated that the cause of the fire was an unattended cooking flame in one of the affected shops.

“The fire incident was reported to our agency at exactly 05:50hrs of Friday 3rd January, 2025.

“Four shops were lost to the fire, but efforts prevented further spread to nearby businesses.

“Valuable properties worth millions of naira were destroyed, while numerous other shops and their contents, valued in billions, were safeguarded from the flames.

“Thankfully, no lives were lost, and the cause was traced to a neglected cooking fire in one of the affected shops.”
