Tragic Air India Flight to UK Crashes with 242 Onboard

 

An Air India flight with 242 individuals onboard has tragically crashed near the Ahmedabad airport.

 

The aircraft was en route to London’s Gatwick Airport in the UK at the time of the incident.

 

Air India acknowledged the accident in a post on X, although no information regarding potential injuries or fatalities was released.

 

“Flight AI171, scheduled from Ahmedabad to London Gatwick, faced a critical situation today, June 12, 2025. We are currently gathering information and will provide updates as soon as possible,” the announcement stated.

 

The incident reportedly happened just as the plane was taking off.

 

Images and videos circulating online depict burning debris and thick black smoke billowing near the airport.

 

According to Flight Radar, the plane’s signal vanished mere seconds after departure. The flight was projected to leave Ahmedabad International Airport at 09:50 local time, arriving in London at 18:25 local time.

 

The signal was lost at 10:08 local time, at an altitude of 625 feet, less than a minute post-takeoff.

 

Gatwick Airport verified that the flight coming from Ahmedabad was anticipated to land at 18:25 UK time.

 

“We can confirm that flight AI171, which experienced a crash shortly after departing from Ahmedabad, was scheduled to arrive at London Gatwick at 18:25,” the airport remarked.

 

India’s aviation minister, Kinjarapu Ram Mohan Naidu, stated that emergency personnel are on high alert and ready for action.

 

“We are responding with the utmost urgency. I am personally overseeing developments and have instructed all aviation and emergency response teams to act quickly and cohesively,” he mentioned.

 

“Rescue operations are underway, and we are ensuring that medical assistance and relief efforts are dispatched to the location. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone involved and their families.”
