The Department of State Services (DSS) released a statement about its recent visit to the Socio-Economic Rights and Accountability Project (SERAP) office in Abuja on Monday, September 9.
In light of growing concerns and rumors, the DSS refuted claims made on Tuesday that their personnel had raided the office.
The official statement from the DSS, shared on their website, clarified that the visit was a standard procedure for ongoing investigations and was not an aggressive act as suggested by certain media reports.
The agency highlighted that the actions of their personnel have been mischaracterized as acts of intimidation.
The statement noted, “The Department of State Services has received numerous inquiries regarding its purported unlawful excursion into SERAP offices in Abuja and Lagos.”
“This portrayal is misleading and not representative of the actual events. It’s important to clarify that two unarmed operatives conducted a lawful routine inquiry at the SERAP office in Abuja, which has been inaccurately framed as an illegal raid or harassment of its officials.”
“The DSS further clarifies that such inquiries and interactions are standard practices and do not constitute any form of illegality.”
“While the agency is committed to thoroughly investigating these misleading claims, it encourages citizens to engage in the management of national security.”
“Thus, the DSS calls on the public to dismiss these unfounded stories and reaffirms its dedication to professionalism in fulfilling its responsibilities.”
