DStv and GOtv Slash Prices Amid FCCPC Pressure

MultiChoice Nigeria Reduces DStv GOtv Subscription Price After FCCPC Pressure (via Primetweets)

MultiChoice Nigeria, the parent company of DStv and GOtv, has revealed that it will cut its subscription fees by half.

The firm stated that all its service plans will see a 50% reduction in their subscription costs.

This announcement follows pressure from the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission (FCCPC), which threatened legal action against CEO John Ugbe for allegedly impeding investigations.

In a statement released on Tuesday, signed by Ugbe, the company confirmed this notable decrease in subscription fees.

Additionally, the company emphasized the price reduction was a response to the “significant economic challenges faced by Nigerians.”

“Our goal is to show appreciation to our customers and guarantee they have access to top-notch entertainment daily,” the company stated.

On the same Tuesday, the FCCPC initiated legal proceedings against Ugbe and senior executives of the company for alleged interference with their investigation.

Furthermore, on May 8, 2025, the Federal High Court in Abuja dismissed MultiChoice Nigeria Limited’s appeal to validate its recent price hikes for DStv and GOtv in Nigeria. This ruling was a significant win for the FCCPC concerning the unauthorized increase in subscription prices.

In light of the FCCPC’s actions, MultiChoice Nigeria had also reported a loss of 1.4 million subscribers from March 2023 to March 2025.

This trend is linked to multiple price increases instituted by MultiChoice Nigeria over the past two years.

In total, the company raised its DStv and GOtv package prices three times within just a year—first in April 2023, with additional hikes in November 2023 and the latest in April 2024, which took effect on May 1.
