Following allegations of inflating the council’s supplementary budget and engaging in corrupt practices, Hon. Eghe Ogbemudia, the chairman of the Egor Local Government Area in Edo State, has been impeached.
The decision to impeach Ogbemudia was made during a legislative session of the council, where a vote of no confidence was passed against the chairman.
The impeachment proceedings were spearheaded by the Leader of the House, Councillor Godwin Uwadiae Edigin.
During the session, a motion for a vote of no confidence was submitted by Councillor Rt. Hon. Stella Ogida, highlighting the chairman’s gross misconduct, including the padding of the council’s budget.
Seconding the motion, Hon. Ambassador Elliot Inneh revealed further discrepancies in the budget, indicating a lack of transparency in the chairman’s actions.
Subsequently, a voice vote was conducted, with the majority of councillors supporting the motion for the chairman’s impeachment.
