Recently, the Edo State Police Command showcased 23 individuals arrested for their alleged participation in various criminal activities.
As reported by Daily Post, Commissioner Umoru Ozigi stated that the arrests were linked to cultism and kidnapping offenses.
Out of the total suspects, 19 were taken in for their involvement in cult groups, while the remaining four were accused of child abduction.
The Commissioner emphasized that this press event aimed to inform the public about ongoing efforts to address the troubling issues of cult violence and crime in Edo State.
The arrests occurred in several locations including Benin, along the Jattu/Ibie road in Etsako West, at the Benin-Agbor Road Bypass, and near the Comprehensive Road off Warrake Road in Auchi.
The captured individuals are reportedly affiliated with various secret societies, such as the Eiye Confraternity, Vikings, Aye Confraternity (or BLACK AXE), and the Buccaneers.
Ozigi accused the suspects of instilling fear within the community.
Among the items seized from the suspects were nine Pump Action Guns, three Single Barrel Guns, two homemade Beretta Pistols, and three improvised cut-to-size firearms.
Additionally, authorities recovered 82 live cartridges, 14 spent cartridges, one battle axe, a gun muffler, and a Lexus ES 330 vehicle.
The Commissioner announced that the suspects would face legal proceedings once their investigation is concluded.
He expressed gratitude towards the citizens for their assistance by providing valuable information that has supported the fight against crime.
He reiterated the commitment of the police to rely on community collaboration to foster a safer environment.
During an interview, some suspects admitted their involvement and shared details about their participation.
