The Edo State government, under the leadership of Obaseki, has challenged the Governor-elect, Senator Monday Okpebholo, to provide evidence within 48 hours for his claims regarding looting and vandalism involving state officials.
Okpebholo had previously raised concerns about alleged fraudulent loan activities and the misappropriation of state assets by members of Obaseki’s outgoing administration.
As the transition period approaches, he urged financial institutions to cease loan approvals for the current government.
His statements highlighted worries over loans obtained under dubious circumstances and significant theft of government property, such as vehicles and equipment.
Crusoe Osagie, the Special Adviser on Media Projects for the State Governor, responded by demanding that Okpebholo name the banks that allegedly provided loans in the last three months or offer other evidence to support his claims, emphasizing the need for accountability.
Osagie stated, “The Edo State Government is giving a 48-hour ultimatum to Senator Monday Okpebholo to provide verifiable proof to substantiate his claims that government officials are looting and vandalising assets in the State.
“Our government is serious, and we will not tolerate unfounded allegations. Okpebholo and his team must deliver credible evidence within the deadline to back their assertions.
“He should realize that governing Edo State is a serious responsibility, and being Governor is not a platform for mockery.
“We expect him to provide concrete evidence regarding his looting accusations within the next 48 hours. Otherwise, he must issue a formal apology to the State Government.”
