Elevate Your Nation’s Flag and Watch Your Dreams Take Flight to Grammy Glory

Reno Omokri Critiques Davido Following Grammy Awards

Former presidential advisor, Reno Omokri, has publicly criticized singer Davido regarding his loss at the Grammy Awards.

He took a moment to celebrate Temilade Openiyi, known as Tems, for winning the award for Best African Music Performance at the 67th Grammy Awards held on February 2.

In a heartfelt message on Instagram, Reno praised Tems for her achievement, expressing that her positive representation of Nigeria could serve as an inspiration for others aiming for Grammy success.

He expressed;

“Congratulations, Tems, for bringing the Best African Music Performance Grammy back to Nigeria. It’s wonderful to see a proud Nigerian who speaks highly of her country achieving such a significant honor as a double Grammy winner. We celebrate you, Tems, and hope others can follow your example to achieve their own Grammys.”

Additionally, he mentioned in another post;

“To Win a Grammy As a Nigerian Artist, Associate With the Nigerian Flag, Not the Flag of a Former Colonial Power; Otherwise Your Ambition Will Fail! When you uplift your country’s flag, Providence will elevate you to Grammy success!”

This comment seems to be aimed at Davido, who has included the Belgium flag in his social media profile.

In November 2024, Omokri also criticized Davido for his remarks on a US podcast concerning the Nigerian government and economy.

During his appearance on The Big Homies House, Davido mentioned the difficulties in Nigeria, advising Black Americans to think twice before moving back.

“Things are tough back home. The economy is really struggling, with issues like the exchange rate being a problem and oil prices being excessively high. It’s ironic that a country producing oil has to pay more compared to those importing it.”

He stated, “I do my part as an ambassador. However, when filming, I won’t portray the negative aspects.” This sparked backlash from various critics, including Reno Omokri, who responded on social media.

Omokri accused Davido of showing a “lack of patriotism and ignorance” in his comments.
