Pastor William Kumuyi, leader of the Deeper Life Christian Life Ministry, has called on ministers to stop depleting their congregants’ finances by promoting the concept of “sowing seeds” for wealth.
This message was delivered during a religious gathering on October 18.
Kumuyi emphasized that the primary role of church leaders should be to assist their members by addressing their needs rather than exploiting them through financial contributions to seed sowing.
“True anointing lifts the downtrodden and aids the less fortunate. Like Elijah, who supported those in need, we should aim to raise people up,” he stated.
He criticized certain preachers for using the little resources that vulnerable groups, like widows, possess. He noted that in some communities, there are claims that sowing a seed will yield a hundredfold return. He urged honesty among ministers regarding these practices, questioning the outcomes for those who have given everything they owned, often under coercive beliefs stirred by church leaders.
Kumuyi lamented the situation where widows, after giving their belongings, return home empty-handed while the prophets they support live in wealth. He called for reflection among clergy about the true impact of their guidance on the lives and families of their most vulnerable congregants.
He pointed out that the disparity is growing, where some church founders are accumulating wealth at the cost of their members’ poverty.
“Modern-day preachers are prospering off the backs of their congregations,” he asserted. “We need voices to address this issue, as true prophets should support those in need, similar to Elisha, who provided miraculous aid to suffering widows,” he concluded.
