The individuals were terminated for various offenses, including certificate forgery, s3xual harassment, academic fraud, and financial mismanagement totaling N98,259,314.65.

Following allegations of misconduct such as certificate forgery, s3xual harassment, and academic fraud, six employees of the Enugu State University of Science and Technology (ESUT) have been relieved of their duties.

The decision was announced by Professor Aloysius-Michaels Okolie, the Vice Chancellor of ESUT, at a press conference held in Agbani, Enugu State.

Professor Okolie disclosed that the dismissals were approved during the 179th meeting of the University’s Governing Council, which was overseen by the Pro-Chancellor, Sir Chinyeaka Ohaa. The infractions leading to these terminations ranged from extortion, manipulation of results, holding multiple full-time positions simultaneously, involvement in forging transcripts, to misappropriation of funds amounting to N98,259,314.65.

The Vice Chancellor reiterated the Governing Council’s strong stance against fraudulent activities within the university staff. Consequently, the Council has mandated the university’s management to enforce stringent measures to combat such misconduct.

“The Council expressed dismay over the increasing cases of exam malpractices and directed the Management to apply necessary penalties to the implicated students and their accomplices,” Professor Okolie revealed. He further mentioned that the Council has advised the Vice Chancellor to promptly conclude disciplinary proceedings and implement a
“shame strategy” to address these issues.

In recognition of his contributions, Professor Okolie commended the state Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, for facilitating the accreditation of the Nursing Sciences and Faculty of Pharmaceutical Science programs by providing essential equipment and resources. He also acknowledged the Governor’s role in financing equipment and resources for the upcoming verification of three new programs: Public Health, Radiography, and Human Nutrition and Dietetics.

The Vice Chancellor affirmed the University Council’s dedication to realizing the Governor’s progressive vision for the institution, with a focus on enhancing the educational quality and integrity at ESUT.
