Asari Dokubo, a previous leader of militants, has once again claimed that Nigerian soldiers are involved in illegal oil trading in the Niger Delta region.
According to Asari, President Bola Tinubu instructed him to speak to the media, where he accused military personnel of participating in oil bunkering.
Earlier in June, he suggested that a significant portion of oil theft in the Niger Delta could be traced back to the actions of the Nigerian Army and Navy.
This information followed his discussion with President Tinubu at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
In remarks to the press, Asari stated: “The military is at the heart of oil theft, and we need to be transparent with the Nigerian public that 99 percent of oil theft can be attributed to the Nigerian military, particularly the Army and the Navy.”
Despite these accusations, Asari clarified that ethnic groups should not be blamed for oil bunkering in the region.
In a recent video, he mentioned: “I am speaking about the president, and since they prefer no secrets, I shall be clear. It is the president who instructed me to address the press.”
He further challenged: “If asked about the cause of bunkering, should I remain silent? Why fear naming those responsible for oil theft?”
“It’s not the Ijaw, Ikwerre, or Ogoni individuals who are behind this; rather, it’s members of the military who fund these operations and provide minimal compensation to the local youths involved.”
“Everyone is aware of this, but due to fears of a coup, they choose to remain silent.”
