The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) issued a statement denouncing a viral video of Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer Okpravero Ufuoma engaging in begging at the airport, asserting that this behavior does not mirror the general passenger experience at Nigeria’s airports.
The Managing Director/Chief Executive of FAAN, Mrs Olubunmi Kuku, expressed that soliciting money from passengers, whether local or international, is unacceptable conduct for airport personnel in the country.
Mrs. Kuku commented, “The video showing a Nigeria Immigration Service (NIS) officer soliciting money from a passenger at the airport is distressing. This behavior is not tolerated and is not indicative of the standard of passenger service we strive to offer at our terminals.
She disclosed that the officer in question has been immediately relieved of duty at the terminal and is currently undergoing disciplinary procedures with NIS. FAAN is dedicated to upholding the integrity and professionalism of all airport staff.
Passengers are encouraged to report instances of financial solicitation or unprofessional behavior by airport personnel, such as begging for money, as passenger comfort remains FAAN’s primary concern.
“Should passengers encounter similar incidents, we urge them to report promptly or seek assistance using the provided QR codes and contact numbers below. Your safety and comfort are paramount, and we are committed to ensuring a pleasant travel experience for everyone,” Kuku emphasized.
