Femi Fani-Kayode, the former Minister of Aviation in Nigeria, has criticized Kemi Badenoch, the leader of the UK Conservative Party, following her comments directed at Nigeria’s Vice President, Kashim Shettima.
In his post on X this Thursday, Fani-Kayode declared that Nigeria has no need for Badenoch’s opinion.
He expressed, “You’re not welcome here, just as we don’t desire your input. Your current actions seem to align with the far-right factions in your adopted country. We request you to silence your harsh rhetoric and consider rebranding yourself to something like ‘Aunty Jemimah.’”
This reaction followed Badenoch’s defense of her remarks regarding Nigeria, which she maintained despite facing backlash for seemingly belittling the nation.
In her earlier statements, Badenoch described her childhood in Nigeria as marred by fear and insecurity, linked to the pervasive corruption in the country.
In response, Vice President Shettima accused Badenoch of disparaging Nigeria during an event on Monday, the 10th Annual Migration Dialogue held in Abuja.
He challenged Badenoch to reconsider the name “Kemi” if she holds negative views about her homeland.
Addressing Shettima’s comments, Badenoch reaffirmed her stance, insisting her statements were not intended as public relations for Nigeria.
