As the trailer for Fast & Furious 9 continues to rack up views and break records, fans are counting down the days for a film that will serve as an unofficial kick-off for the summer movie season. Vin Diesel? Check. Tyrese? Check. Michelle Rodriguez? Check.
We can also check John Cena, Charlize Theron, Cardi B, and Sung Kang, who will be returning as Han in the franchise. The F9 trailer drop was a major event that included concert performances by Ludacris and Cardi B.
Set to make her next feature film debut after Hustlers, Cardi B is excited for fans to see her in the action-packed flick. But so is the person who co-signed on her casting.
Vin Diesel reveals how Cardi B was chosen for role
Diesel stopped by Jimmy Kimmel to talk about family, F9, and its new cast lineup. In October, it was announced that Cardi B would be joining the Fast family, and to many it seems like a good fit. However, she was handpicked by none other than Diesel’s little girl.
Chuckling he said, “My daughter wanted a piece of casting to happen so Cardi B is in it,” adding that she made the suggestion while listening to the rapper’s hit “I Like it Like That.” After working things out with Cardi B’s team, the deal was done.
Will ‘F9’ still be released on schedule?
As of this writing, the coronavirus has been declared a global pandemic, causing businesses, schools, and entire events to close or postpone activities. Hollywood is not immune to the ripple effect, with some films such as No Time To Die pushing back their release dates.
Of course, the question of whether F9 is still coming out on May 22 is lingering in the air. Diesel is determined for the show to go as planned, and recently told USA Today this film will drop on its intended date. The same goes for the other movie he’s producing and starring in, Bloodshot.
“We need movies now more than ever. We’re already in a very interesting time where cinema and the cinematic experience is so threatened. So, yes, put it on record we’re going to show up.”
‘Fast & Furious 9’ described as ‘best one’
When Cardi B and Vin Diesel shared a video celebrating the last day of filming F9 in London, she said she thinks this is “the best one.” F9 is highly anticipated in the fandom and is said to be the penultimate film in the franchise. Part 10 will supposedly be the last.
After becoming such a huge hit for the box office, Fast & Furious hit the level where it attracts big names in Hollywood, and this time around, audiences will also get to see Dame Helen Mirren make an appearance. Ghosts from the Fast & Furious past are due to return in the form of Han, Sean, and Earl.
Han was believed to be dead but the trailer for F9 revealed the twist, so fans will learn how he survived and what the repercussions are for that. As it stands, F9 is still due in theaters on May 22.
