The Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, emphasized that the President’s goal is not to impose hardships on Nigerians but to address long-standing issues.
In a meeting with members of the diplomatic community, Idris stated that the President is focused on rectifying past ineffective policies and decisions that have hindered the nation’s progress.
He highlighted that President Tinubu took office amid significant challenges including high debt service payments, widespread poverty, escalating unemployment, deteriorating infrastructure, and security concerns.
Idris stressed that the administration has initiated crucial reforms to prevent an economic collapse, such as the removal of the costly and unsustainable fuel subsidy to redirect funds towards key sectors like healthcare, education, infrastructure, and security.
Recognizing the potential difficulties arising from such reforms, the government has implemented intervention programs to alleviate the transitional period’s impact on citizens.
Efforts are underway to ensure the successful execution of these programs to provide relief to the Nigerian populace.
