At the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games, Flora Ugwunwa from Nigeria has won a silver medal in the women’s Javelin F54 event.
Her exceptional throw of 19.26 meters earned her the second spot, following Nurkhon Kurbanova from Uzbekistan, who set a new world record with a throw of 21.12 meters.
This accomplishment adds another medal to Nigeria’s tally in Para-Athletics at the ongoing Games, bringing their total count to four.
At 40 years old, Flora Ugwunwa continues to shine, with a remarkable collection of three consecutive Paralympic medals: two Golds from Rio and Tokyo, and a Silver from Paris.
Earlier, Mariam Eniola Bolaji secured Nigeria’s first medal at the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in Para Badminton women’s singles SL3 event by winning a bronze medal after defeating Kozyna Oksana of Ukraine 21-9, 21-9.
In addition, Onyinyechi Mark, a powerlifter, captured a gold medal for Nigeria in the women’s 61kg powerlifting category by lifting an impressive 150kg, surpassing China’s Cui Jianjin and Mexico’s Amelia Perez, who claimed silver and bronze respectively.
