Abdullahi Ganduje, the Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has officially recognized Chief Tony Okocha as the party’s leader in Rivers State.
Ganduje stated that the executive committee led by Okocha, who is an ally of Nyesom Wike, the Federal Capital Territory minister, is the accepted leadership structure of the APC in Rivers, as per the party’s national secretariat.
This announcement was made by Ganduje on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the inauguration ceremony for the newly elected state executive committee of the party.
The APC national chairman offered his congratulations to the newly elected officials and explained the choice to conduct the ceremony in Rivers instead of at the APC’s national headquarters in Abuja.
He emphasized that this decision reflects the party’s commitment to enhancing collaboration between the national and state leaderships, aiming to avoid any splits within the organization.
Ganduje urged the state executive committee to focus on internal democracy, calling it a fundamental aspect of their duties.
Additionally, he highlighted the need for unity and inclusion within the party at the state level.
Regarding the APC’s achievements in the South-South region, which has been predominantly influenced by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Ganduje remarked on the party’s notable advancements, particularly in Cross River and Edo states.
He further mentioned that Rivers is now a key target for the APC as it seeks to broaden its influence in the region.
Further information will be provided later.
