Golden Globe Winning Director of ‘Parasite,’ Bong Joon Ho, Praises BTS

When it comes to BTS, fans come in all shapes and sizes. People might think of fans of the band as being typical young listeners, but they’d be mistaken — members of ARMY come from all walks of life. This was recently proven by famous Korean director Bong Joon Ho during his while attending the Golden Globes.

The award-winning director of Parasite praised BTS, and it’s not the first time he’s mentioned their name.

Renowned Korean film director Bong Joon Ho took home a Golden Globe for Best Motion Picture — Foreign Language after his thrilling film, Parasite, made waves in theaters across the world.

And while Bong Joon Ho deserves every iota of praise he receives for his incredible work in the film industry, he decided to take some of his time in the spotlight to give credit to BTS and their work in recent years.

The director said, “Although I’m here at the Golden Globes, BTS has 3,000 times the amount of power and influence that I have. I think Korea produces a lot of great artists cause we’re very emotionally dynamic people.”

This isn’t the first time Bong Joon Ho has namedropped BTS — in fact, it seems he’s quite the fan of the dynamic K-pop group. During his interview with Jimmy Fallon on The Tonight Show, he said, “I particularly enjoyed the episode when BTS was here.”

It seems Bong Joon Ho is a member of ARMY.

Fans on Twitter were thrilled to see Bong Joon Ho endorsing BTS, even when it was meant to be his night to receive adulation.

One fan wrote, “So proud of legends BTS being mentioned everywhere in honorable places and people.”

Another Twitter user wrote, “Bong Joon-ho gives @BTS_twt so much props. I love the respect he has for them. There’s pride in his voice every time he mentions them, and I’m glad Western media gets to see that respect displayed in every interview he does.”

One user suggested that we might see a collaboration in the future. They added, “10 years from now a movie abt BTS’ rise to fame, directed by Bong Joon Ho, at that point it’s common for non-english language films to get Oscars, it wins best picture with best original song by BTS themselves just picture it.”

Meanwhile, BTS has had an amazingly successful 2019, not only as a band, but also as individuals. Jimin was noted as being one of the most-preferred idols among Koreans, ranking number one in a variety of demographics.

Additionally, ‘Suga’s Interlude’ landed Suga in a solo top ten positions on Billboard rankings this year. These are only two of many of the band’s hallmark accomplishments during 2019 — surely we’ll see much more from them in 2020 as well.
