Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore has made allegations against the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
The 2023 presidential hopeful representing the African Action Congress (AAC) asserted that the government is more intimidated by peaceful demonstrators than by armed threats.
He articulated these views during an interview with Arise Television on Wednesday, while criticizing the government’s ongoing attacks on nonviolent protesters.
When questioned about whether he believed the administration was fearful of protesters, Sowore replied, “Absolutely. They prioritize placards over firearms because they can respond to those who pose a violent threat, but they lack the means and the strategic approach to deal with the larger populace.”
“Individuals carrying placards in small numbers are perceived as more threatening than those with guns.”
Further commenting, Sowore denounced the government’s approach to the treason case against 11 individuals associated with the #EndBadGovernance movement, labeling it as unfounded and driven by political agendas.
He stated,
“Those involved were likely minors. Due to the potential embarrassment it caused, they promptly dropped those charges. However, they are intent on using these current cases to intimidate others who might consider peaceful protest in the future.”
