A fire at The Polytechnic Ibadan in Oyo State has resulted in the loss of properties worth millions of naira, impacting multiple rooms on the campus.
Reports from Daily Post indicate that the blaze erupted early Wednesday morning.
It was revealed that three out of four rooms in the staff quarters were affected by the fire.
Mr. Akinyinka confirmed the details of the incident.
According to him, the fire was triggered by an electrical spark when the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) restored power to the area.
Fortunately, there were no reported injuries from this fire.
He stated, “We received the emergency call at precisely 02:26 hours on Wednesday, May 7, 2025. Firefighters, led by ACFS Adesina Olusoji, quickly responded to the situation. Upon arrival, they found the staff quarters engulfed in flames.
“The team acted swiftly to prevent the fire from spreading to adjacent buildings and properties. The fire was completely extinguished with the assistance of the University of Ibadan Fire Department.
“The blaze significantly damaged three rooms in the quarters.
“Despite the destruction of properties worth millions of naira, there were no casualties. The fire crew successfully contained the flames to avoid damage to surrounding properties.
“This incident was caused by electrical sparks during the power restoration by IBEDC.”
