A fire broke out at the well-known Vita Foam Plaza located on Ibrahim Taiwo Road, Yan Kafifa, within the Fagge Local Government Area of Kano State.
This information was verified by the Kano State Fire Service.
ACFO Saminu Yusif Abdullahi, the agency’s Public Relations Officer, released a statement regarding the situation on Monday.
The incident transpired on Sunday, January 19, 2025, at approximately 6:30 PM.
The fire service received an emergency alert from one of its personnel, Idris Isah Charo, regarding the fire.
Firefighters from various metropolitan stations were quickly dispatched and reached the location within moments.
“Upon arrival, it was discovered that a building known as Gidan Alhaji Muhammadu Mai Katifa, used for mattress sales, was ablaze,” Abdullahi reported.
“The fire originated on the top floor, leading to the destruction of a mattress store, one shop, and a restroom. It then spread to the first floor, impacting three shops and another restroom, and reached the ground floor, where four shops and two restrooms were slightly affected.”
The report also mentioned that the neighboring building experienced slight damage due to the fire.
During the fire, a 30-year-old male named Suraja Muhammad suffered from smoke inhalation and was taken to the hospital for treatment before firefighters arrived.
“The investigation into the fire’s cause and the estimated damage to property is currently underway,” Abdullahi stated.
