To tackle the worsening insecurity in Zamfara State, Gov Dauda Lawal has signed an executive order banning the sale of unbranded bread, packaging of bread in sacks, illegal sales of petroleum and use of tinted glass in vehicles in the state.

According to a statement released, the ban takes effect immediately, and all bakery production companies are mandated to label their bread with full address details of their production facility.

The statement reads in part;

“Following the recent spate of attacks on some communities across some local government areas of the state, particularly Zurmi, Shinkafi, Kaura Namoda, and Talata Mafara, and the resurgence of activities of banditry, kidnapping in communities and some major federal highways in the state, the ban takes effect immediately, and all bakery production companies are mandated to label their bread with full address details of their production facility.”

According to the statement, Governor Lawal has enforced restrictions on the volume of petrol sold to vehicles, limiting it to a maximum of fifty liters at a time to regulate the sale of petroleum. It states that, operating hours for petroleum filling stations have also been restricted to between 6:00 a.m. and 6:00 p.m.

Additionally, the transportation and sale of bread within the capital of each local government, particularly in Gusau, will be limited to specific designated areas.

The Executive Order prohibits vehicle owners from covering their license number plate while driving. The government went on to state that all vehicle owners must possess their vehicle particulars and ensure compliance with the provisions of Zamfara State Road Traffic Law No. 2, 2015, and other relevant laws to ensure the safety and security of all residents.
