Hauwa Mohammed, also known as Jaruma, the well-known controversial self-proclaimed s*x therapist, has shared her experience of being introduced to hard drugs.
This confession comes more than a year after she faded from the public eye.
It was previously speculated in March 2023 that Jaruma was undergoing rehabilitation in Abuja for substance addiction following a video of her looking distressed that circulated on social media.
She relayed her story at the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA’s X space event, discussing ‘Drug dependence: Addressing the fear of stigmatisation in recovery and overcoming the demon of drugs and stigma: A survivor’s story’.
Jaruma, the owner of a s*x enhancement brand, revealed that she was led into drug dependency by a renowned plastic surgeon in Lagos who was also her friend.
“I once posted a video on YouTube discussing something, not anticipating it would thrust me into the limelight as Jaruma. I was seeking regular employment to sustain myself.
“I made errors after gaining prominence. During my school years, I refrained from drugs as I was my mother’s only child.
“One day, a friend who I knew was into drugs (marijuana) invited me to hang out. While spending time together, she offered me marijuana, but I declined citing my well-being.
“She then questioned me on my method of relaxation since I didn’t smoke or drink, stating that every celebrity has a means to destress. I explained my inability to partake due to religious reasons as a Muslim.
“A few days later, I observed them with a balloon, unsure of its purpose. She informed me that she would demonstrate. Had I known its true nature, I would have refused.
“I was on the floor, and my friend mentioned it was the initial effect, assuring that after repeated use, I would grow accustomed to it and the drooling would cease.
“This was unfamiliar territory for me. She handed me the balloon, instructing me to inhale. After coming to, I departed and ceased contact with her due to my distress.
“Then Dr. Anu entered the picture, sharing certain details with me. She alleged a plot to defame me and that individuals were targeting me. I reported Dr. Anu to my fathers Femi Babafemi and Buba Marwa.
“Preparations were underway. I initiated legal action against her. The petition with complete details and dates will be unveiled soon. NDLEA expressed outrage upon learning of the incident.
“She suggested administering an injection to induce a deep slumber where I would forget all my troubles. She grabbed my arm and proceeded with the injection.
“Upon contact with my bloodstream, I sensed a peculiar sensation from the back of my neck to my shoulders. I began descending as she pushed until I lost consciousness completely.
“Unaware of my surroundings, I was in a state of stupor for around two weeks. Upon awakening, I noticed swelling in my hands and veins.
“Following this, when accusations surfaced, I inquired about obtaining the sleeping injection. A single package cost N60,000. I estimate I paid her N720,000.
“She occasionally dispatched it or administered it herself. Nurses were tasked with nightly injections.
“At one juncture, a single dose proved ineffective. I resorted to higher quantities, even reaching five doses in one instance.
“Subsequently, my body began convulsing akin to epilepsy. Foam emerged from my mouth.
“While cocaine induces hyperactivity, drugs result in lethargy. Despite the initial gratifying sensation from the injection.
“Upon awakening, despondency ensues. Each new day feels more dreadful. I felt wretched.
“On one occasion, overwhelmed and desiring death, I ingested 10 doses intentionally, cognizant of the effect five doses had on me.
“My employees discovered me non-responsive. I administered the injection myself using a prominent vein on my wrist.
“As I lost consciousness, the needle dislodged, resulting in profuse bleeding from the vein. It was a harrowing sight.
“Subsequently, I found myself in a sterile environment with medical personnel endeavoring to revive me. I questioned my continued existence?”
