Kano Hisbah Detains Duo for Tying the Knot at a Restaurant Lacking Parental Approval; Pursues Attendees in Widespread Manhunt

Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar, Deputy Commander General of Operations for the board, revealed that Hisbah agents conducted a raid on the restaurant on Wednesday evening due to a tip-off.

A couple was apprehended by the Kano State Hisbah Board for having their marriage ceremony at Banana Restaurant on Zoo Road without obtaining parental consent.

Dr. Mujahideen Abubakar confirmed the arrests to Punch on Thursday, January 30, 2025, explaining that the Hisbah team acted on a tip and raided the restaurant on Wednesday night.

“It is regrettable to report that the so-called marriage ceremony was conducted at the restaurant by the man’s friends, disregarding the parents’ wishes,”
he stated.

He cautioned that the board will not ignore individuals who disrespect the Shari’a law in the state.

According to him, a search has been initiated for all attendees who partook in the illegal marriage ceremony.

“We have detained the couple and are pursuing the friends of the groom who escaped when our officials arrived,”
he noted.

The deputy commander emphasized that the couple contravened the essential conditions for marriage, representing a serious breach of Shari’a law.
