Kano Police Present Suspects in Abduction and Murder Case
The Kano State Police Command has showcased suspects linked to the kidnapping and murder of Atiku Mu’azu, a retired Permanent Secretary and ex-chairman of the Gombe State Board of Internal Revenue Service.
According to TORI, Mu’azu was abducted and subsequently killed in Kano, where he resided after retiring from his government job.
The individuals arrested include Abubakar Hassan, also known as “Captain,” from Ringim Local Government Area in Jigawa State, who is the main suspect. Adamu Abubakar Adam from Sharada Quarters in Kano, who allegedly received a ransom of 2 million Naira, and Alhaji Hamisu, whose residence was utilized to detain the victim for three days.
On January 27, Police Commissioner CP Salman Dogo Garba provided details to the press, explaining that Hassan admitted to orchestrating the kidnapping by misleading Mu’azu into believing he was going to fetch his vehicle.
“We are here to update you on the apprehension of three suspects in the kidnapping and tragic murder of Alhaji Atiku Mu’azu, an incident that has caused significant distress in our community,” stated CP Garba.
“On January 10, 2025, around 2 PM, we received a report from a resident of Janbulo Quarters, indicating that on January 8, at approximately 3 PM, Alhaji Atiku Mu’azu, aged 64, had been abducted, with a ransom demand of 20 million Naira for his release.
“In response, CP Garba assembled a team from the Anti-Kidnapping Unit to rescue the victim and apprehend the suspects.
“Following ongoing investigations and intelligence operations, the authorities captured:
a. Abubakar Hassan, A.K.A. Captain, aged 33, the mastermind behind the crime from Ringim LGA, Jigawa State.
b. Adamu Abubakar Adam, aged 29, from Sharada Quarters, Kano, who collected the 2 million Naira ransom.
c. Alhaji Hamisu, A.K.A. Bakin Bross, aged 34, whose home was where the victim was held captive for three days.
“Throughout the investigation, Hassan confessed to being the sole perpetrator who lured Mu’azu to Jigawa under false pretenses, along with three accomplices including the victim’s mechanic. Mu’azu was later killed after the ransom was paid. A Toy Gun with six rubber bullets was seized from Hassan.
“The suspects are currently being further investigated by the Command’s Criminal Investigation Department (CID) and the Anti-Kidnapping Unit and will face charges upon completion of the inquiry.”
